IMPORTANT PRESS NOTE 2nd FEBRUARY 2012

OUR 'THEATRELAND' WALK, 12 FEB.
When planning our Winter Programme, we arranged to spend most of the 12 Feb. 'walk' seeing the Victoria Theatre outside and having a guided tour inside. That was to be coupled with a short talk there about other Theatres/ Cinemas in the area. We described it in that way in publicity and even said that it would be "93% inside".

Sadly, due to circumstances entirely beyond our control, it will now be impossible for us to go inside 'The Victoria' on that day - so revisions have been necessary, but the walk goes on !

Our walk will still start from the Victoria Theatre at 2.00 pm. with an outline of its history and a look at the exterior. We'll then move to an inside location close by where Tim Fagan, the Theatre Manager, will present a virtual tour of the Victoria with the aid of slides. That's followed by a brief presentation about theatre/cinema-going locally in the first half of 20th century and its dramatic decline between 1956 and 1967. Then, for the last 50 minutes or so, the group will walk round the buildings and sites on that side of town which have been part of the 'Show Biz' scene and hear their stories.

We regret having had to modify this walk, but - as we approach the start of our 9th year - this is only the third time in about 350 walks that we've not been able to do the event as advertised. So we hope our supporters will forgive us. We believe this will still be a thoroughly interesting afternoon about Halifax's former Theatres/ Cinemas/ Entertainment venues.

The charge for this walk is £3 per head. Pre-booking is NOT required, just turn up.
